Hi Everyone

Just a little reminder of tonight's Pictou Co. Naturalist talk on =
White-nose Syndrome in Bats with Shavonne Meyer, our new central region =
of DNR biologist. It all happens at 6:30 at the New Glasgow Library.

So set your TV recorders to tape the opening bits of the Moosehead or =
Canadian-Ottawa games and come on down to meet Shavonne and hear about =
this devastating disease and how the effects on bat population might =
affect the balance of nature.

As an added treat, why not drop in to the Temperance St. school after =
the talk and watch the newly arrived Chimney Swifts enter the chimney. =
They arrived on May 5 from over-wintering in South America and although =
numbers are a little small yet- a dozen last night, each day will bring =
the numbers up till they max out 1st week of June sometimes >500-600 =
birds. This endangered species is amazing to watch, so if you have not =
seen them yet, this is a great opportunity while you are in the =
vicinity. Swifts entered chimney last night 8:42-8:45 add a little to =
the time each night till the solstice then subtract. Entrance is more =
reliable on a clear night. =20

Below is a note from Chris Pepper, provincial coordinator, on the =
upcoming NS Bird Migration Count Day. as well as a link to forms that =
can be used to submit your data. If you can help out in Pictou Co. as =
either a feeder-yard watcher of a field observer, I am the Pictou Co. =
coordinator so let me know email or call if you will be participating. =
and submit the data to me so Chris is not overburdened with forms and =
the county results can all be in one place.=20

Attention Birders!
The 2013 Nova Scotia Migration Count will be taking place on May 11th. =
Anyone interested is encouraged to contact their county coordinator and =
let them know where they will be participating. If your county has no =
coordinator you can get in touch with me by e-mail or phone 483-6693.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with how the NSMC works, it's quite =
simple. Go birdwatching somewhere in Nova Scotia on count day, count the =
number of each species detected, then send your checklist into your =
county coordinator. Some counties have more participation than others so =
make sure you contact your county coordinator and let them know where =
you will be bird watching to avoid covering the same area as another =
person. If your county has no coordinator you can send your checklist =
directly to me Chris Pepper at cpepper@ymail.com or send it to me the =
old fashioned way to 65 Marie Ave./ Lake Echo N.S./ B3E-1A9.
The easiest way to send in your data is by using the" field" and =
"feeder watcher" forms provided on the NS Bird Society Website but any =
checklist is permitted,(at least by me). Just remember to write down =
what county you participated in, the number of hours you spent in the =
field or at your feeders and the number of kilometers you walked or =
drove. The list of county coordinators is on the "cork board" along with =
the field/feederwatcher forms. If you have any questions you can e-mail =
me or phone 483-6693 and I will try and assist you the best I can.
Thanks again to all the county coordinators. To all the participants, =
good luck and have fun.
Chris Pepper
forms can be found at this link:

cheers
Ken
