Hi all
Last night, May 28, was another good viewing night for the Chimney =
Swifts at Temperance St. School in New Glasgow. I arrived at 8:41 and =
the swifts were only just beginning to gather. It was 8C, clear and =
calm. First swift was seen entering at 8:51 with the majority entering =
at 8:57. when over 200 dropped in rapid succession. Stragglers continued =
until 9:12. My tally for the night at 347 was close to what Ross and =
Linda Hall recorded on the 27th. A peak count of 558 was recorded May =
23. Most years the peak is later and into the first week of June. We =
will see what the next week brings and report on it. Any clear night in =
the next week should give good showing till the numbers start to dwindle =
as birds move to breeding locations.=20
There were 12 people on hand for last night's show including a couple of =
people from Maryvale, Antigonish Co. Others from Maryvale were up last =
week.=20

Elsewhere in bird surveys I have been doing near Green Hill area, there =
has been an influx of Red-eyed Vireos, Alder Flycatchers and Cedar =
Waxwings in the last 2 days. I have also heard 3-4 Blackpoll Warblers- =
migrants as they do not breed anywhere near this location as far as I =
know.=20

cheers
Ken
