  Yesterday I was out canoeing on a large lake, Big St. Margaret's Bay Lake to be specific. I was impressed by the number of Tiger Swallowtails over the lake, under windy conditions and quite far from terra firma. I saw maybe five individuals, the only butterfly I saw in this environment.

   Why were these flyers so far and so high? Are they known to be long-distance migrants? Or were they just accidentally caught up in the wind?
