Hi Paul

I did a search on the iBird Pro app for species with red eyes. It turned up 56 N American birds. Most were loons, ducks, coots, herons, raptors etc. The only possibly confusing red-eyed songbirds were 3 other vireos (Yellow Green, Black-whiskered, Black-capped) which have never been recorded here according to All the Birds of Nova Scotia.

And Eastern Towhees have red eyes as well as Downy Woodpeckers (this fact surprised me). No way anyone could confuse them with a vireo

Great question.

Nancy
