I heard and then saw a male Black-backed Woodpecker in East Dalhousie, Kings Co. yesterday.

Strangely enough, it was identified by its distinctive drumming before I located it. (John Kearney posted a link early this spring that is very helpful to distinguish WP drumming- thanks!). Seems late for drumming but the Pileateds and YB Sapsuckers are still at it here. Downy and Hairy WPs are not though.

Any other people seeing Black-backed WPs in their areas?

Nancy
