Hi all
We were spared rain for much of yesterday ( June 30) where I was in =
Pictou Co. I spent the morning on Big I. Near noon, there was an adult =
Caspian Tern on the sand-bar at the big saltmarsh at the west end of the =
causeway. It was with a group of Ring-billed Gulls. There were no signs =
of south migrating shorebirds yet. All observations of shorebirds were =
local nesters. A number of singing Nelson's Sparrows were heard even in =
the wind.=20

When the sun came out in the afternoon, I looked for butterflies in 3 =
squares Dalhousie Mtn in Mt Thom area (20NR04), Greenhill , near Central =
West River (20NR14) and the Elmfield square near Scotsburn (20NR05). =
Most butterflies were able to be documented by photographs even in the =
wind. I saw about 12 species with the following approx. numbers. I have =
a couple of unid'd skippers I am undecided about at the moment.=20

Common Ringlet- ~ 12
Northern Crescent~6
European Skipper~ 4
Hobomok's Skipper~ 6
Long-dash Skipper 1=20
Harris Checkerspot 1
American Lady 1
Northern Spring? Azure 4
Silvery Blue 4
Northern Cloudywing 1
White Admiral 3
Canadian Tiger Swallowtail 3
Sulphur species - 3 no documentation

I discovered a group of Bank Swallows flying around a sand quarry. Not =
sure if there are nests there or not as there were no trespassing signs. =
The quarry has an appearance of being active with lots of machinery =
around although there was no one there today.=20
cheers
Ken
