Little toads (10mm) were hopping up the beach en masse at L Torment (E Dalhousie, Kings Co) yesterday. I don't know about other lakes and ponds but here there will be several days of lots of tiny toads leaving the water and then they will be finished. 

This must be their strategy to swamp predators and ensure enough survive to get further onto land. Like Sea Turtles but in the opposite direction.
