That must have been quite the sight. When we were in Northern Cape Breton t=
he middle of the month=2C I found two hummingbird moths on my sister-in-law=
's property & my wife noted several others at friends' places. It seemed od=
d that no one on naturens were reporting them but I did find one in South K=
Ings a few days ago. All of them were nectaring on knapweed which does not =
seem to hold the same attraction for butterflies & other insects. At least =
in Cape Breton a few bumble bee species (B. vagans & B. ternarius) were fai=
rly common on the knapweed. These two species were much more common than he=
re in Kings Co. where B. impatiens is more often encountered.
Similar to your experience=2C Rick=2C I have found it difficult to get a w=
ell-focused photo of these creatures.

I observed a group of a dozen of these moths nectaring on a stand of Knapwe=
ed about 5 feet from the ocean at Wine Harbour Barachois=2C Guysborough Co.=
The photos were taken around 2PM=2C Sat July 21. The buzzing wings drove =
my camera's autofocus crazy.=0A=
