Many substantial patches of Spotted touch-me-not in my area of the Valley. =
As I mentioned in an earlier post=2C nice ones at Miner's Marsh but also al=
ong the abandoned RR bed & at the Kentville Research Station. What mystifie=
s me is why one never sees hummingbirds at those...seemingly well suited to=
 a hummingbird's tongue. I recall years ago finding numbers of hummingbirds=
 at such stands. Do our feeders suffice for them now?Hummingbirds like our =
feeders but also check out the flowers (few now) in our beds.

This is a garden plant in our neighborhood. Do you know where there are an=
y=20
"wild" stands in the metro area?

* the pink kind is Impatiens glandulifera=2C which can be called Pink
Jewelweed (a local Ontario coinage)=2C Himalayan Balsam (the standard
name)=2C and Policeman's Helmet (recently noted on a facebook notice of a
control effort). The species is regarded as invasive=2C and it forms 2m
tall stands in places in southern Ontario=2C and is=2C I understand=2C very
invasive in Britain. It's widespread in Nova Scotia=2C often as stunted
30cm tall plants a ways back from the shore.

I have no experience with the use of Impatiens to deal with Poison-ivy.
