There were three, and only three, of these large (20mm long) oval
holes in a White Pine stump (details in caption). They were made
sometime in the past 10 days:

The next one, using a depth-distorting flash, shows a bit of the stuff
inside. It reminded me of cobwebbed sawdust:

I poked a stick in one but saw nothing obvious behind the fluff except
a round chamber.

Any idea what could have made them?
