When the fog pulled back, the sun came out, and I just happened to glance
out the studio window and there were two butterflies in the garden. One was
a gorgeous big, fresh looking Monarch. Initially I thought the smaller one
might be too but I went looking for it and it appears to be a Fritillary of
some sort, quite orange quite small. I thought tattered but they have
different shapes in their wings. I ran for the camera and called my sister
(butterfly enthusiast). I did get a couple photos of the Monarch but missed
the other. Will keep eyes peeled. Fog is surging in and out here. There have
been several wood Nymphs over the past couple weeks, a few Sulphers and
Cabbage butterflies. I have seen more today than the rest of the summer.
Hopefully that will continue. I still have warm memories of last summer
through fall.
Still have three Hummingbirds although I expect them to be gone every time
they range away awhile. There is still a solitary tree Swallow flying about
from time to time but last evening The barn swallow got her young air born
and many others joined them. It was a wonderful site to see as the sun began
to set.
