Zinck is probably reflecting the comment found in Roland and Smith's, =
The Flora of Nova Scotia, "doubtfully native to N.S." Taxonomy of =
Vascular Plants by Lawrence, refers to it, (Echinocystis (lobata)) as =
one species representing the Cucurbitaceae family in the U.S. Other =
references show it as being native to North America, e.g. Wildflowers =
of Ontario.

Wild Cucumber was featured with notes in the BNS calendar this year =
(July 2013).=20

I grew up with it in Pugwash Jct., in the 1940s-50s, as a decorative =
vine on our sundeck. Wild cucumber does not seem any more prevalent in =
that part of the province now than it was then. I must have a more =
critical look next time I'm at my old home territory. I know it is =
certainly commonly seen around the Valley, including here in Avonport.

I've used its early stages in the school science classroom as a means to =
observe plant growth (dramatic, measurable growth over a short period of =
time).
