Paul,
There are two routes that go around the reservoir and also bypass the =
rocky descent. They are hard to describe and best attempted by newbies =
when the leaves have fallen. When you come to the bluff above the =
reservoir turn right and keep going along the path which is partially =
hidden this time of year to an opening above the Duncan Reef Barren. =
This is the easiest and safest route. Another method is to turn left =
after about 30 metres upstream of the reservoir and cross the creek =
feeding the reservoir. Next time I'm up there I'll put some red flagging =
on the trees to mark the trails.
During the winter when the area around the reservoir and rocky descent =
is filled with ice I use these alternate routes. They are longer treks =
but much safer.
Hans

Thank you Hans. I could not ask for more! I am somewhat hesitant to =
attempt the hike because of my 84 years. Perhaps on a nice fall day, I =
shall follow your excellent guide to Duncan Reef.
Paul.

Hello Hans,
Can you tell me how to get to Duncan reef. I was out to Duncan's =
cove yesterday and could not make it to the reef.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Paul Ruggles.

Both these species, bird and orchid, tend to arrive in this area =

hope I'm getting it right.
The Ruddy Turnstones are at Duncan Reef feeding on flies and =
maggots present on the rotting kelp heaps. I arrive here, scatter the =
birds, and sit down in a comfortable location and await their return =
which only takes minutes. The peeps were so close to me, less than 6 =
feet, that I couldn't focus my camera properly whereas the turnstones =
came within 10 feet, some squabbling over the best feeding grounds. This =
is two step foraging for the birds, that is there is something to eat at =
every second step.
Details are in my journal: =
