Thank you Jim E and JIm W for straightening that out. I am still surprised =
at how stiff the clacking wings are plus the size and colours. I did not kn=
ow Crane Flies could be so beautiful.=20

On my way out the door later this morning I snapped this shot of the Cranef=
lies still in their mating "U" -they will probably be in the same position =
when I get home. Nice wing pattern!

I will post this on BugGuide to see if it can be IDed further.

Nancy=2C note especially on your third photo that the halteres (whitish sta=
lks with knobs) are very visible attached to the very humped thorax. These=
 halteres always mean a Dipteran=2C a fly=2C and are especially visible on =
large crane flies. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.=20

When I saw this Dragonfly (?Erythrodiplax berenice - Seaside Dragonlet)
last evening I thought it was a Crane Fly b/c of the long legs. The stiff w=
ings made a clicking sound as it flew around the light. Poor quality photos=
 but may be enough to ID (details in caption):

These two were mating below the same light this morning:

Location is on the coast in an area of mudflats/salt marsh.

Please correct or confirm the identity plus any other info would be appreci=
ated.

Thanks=2C Nancy
