This reminds me of the time, Peter, when I was=0Afishing in the evening on =
a small lake. just forget which lake.=0AAnyway there was a loon on the lake=
 with its chick. The chick=0Awas about half grown.=0AThe old loon sent the =
chick to the other end of the lake from where I was=0Aand came close to the=
 canoe. When I caught a fish and released it=0Athe loon dived quickly and g=
ot the fish before the fish had collected its wits.=0AAs it got dark a Horn=
ed Owl flew out and sat in a tree on the edge of the lake.=0AThe old Loon g=
ave a certain call and the chick came running over the=0Atop of the water t=
o it. At least as best a loon chick could run.=0AThe loon and the chick sta=
yed side by side until I left and before long the owl=0Awent of to look for=
 dinner.=0AEnjoyable birds=0APaul=0A =0A=0A________________________________=

=0A =0A=0A=0AI wonder if anyone else has noted in other areas what I like =
=0Ato call the Loon early warning system. We have several loons in the cove=
 most of =0Athe time and they are noisy early in the morning when they comm=
ute between the =0Alakes and the salt water. =0AThe other time is when a Ba=
ld Eagle decides to visit the cove =0Awhich is on=A0most days. =0AThe first=
 Loon to see it come over the tree line starts =0Acalling and then for a co=
uple of minutes every Loon in the cove starts =0Acalling. =0AI have never s=
een an Eagle take a loon although they are =0Apartial to the resident Black=
 Ducks in the winter. =0APeter Stow =0AHubbards=A0=A0
