All,=0A=A0=0A=A0=A0=A0 I've noted, with some concern=A0over the last few ye=
ars, the gradual expansion of the Gray Squirrel in Nova Scotia. It now appe=
ars to be=A0a breeding species in the province=A0and is expanding it's=A0ra=
nge every year. Does anyone know why this was allowed to happen? My underst=
anding is that=A0the Gray Squirrel was introduced into the province and not=
as a part of a natural expansion of its range.=A0=A0Does=A0the province ha=
ve any=A0plans on slowing the range expansion of this invasive species (if =
it is indeed considered=A0an invasive species)=A0or is it now too late? Are=
there any studies of what may happen to the local Red Squirrel population =
(and other habitat competing species)=A0or can they coexist? =0A=A0=0A=A0=
=A0 There seems to be a lack of interest in the Gray Squirrel's establishin=
g a foothold in the province by naturalists as well as=A0authorities and I =
wonder if that is do to the fact it is a 'cute' small mammal=A0and just not=
a major supposed=A0threat to business interests unlike the green crab,=A0b=
rown spruce longhorn beetle or giant hogweed. Having=A0dealt with them for =
decades, while living =A0in Toronto, I don't consider them cute and hope th=
e province will=A0 at least try and keep them from spreading to Cape Breton=
. All the best.=0A=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=
