Last night, just after sunset, a Northern Hawk Owl was seen perched on an
antenna at the Stanfest Camp at Glasgow Head, Guysborough County. Despite
the poor lighting, the key field marks were noted including dark pattern on
sides of head, horizontal barring below, and long tail. The accipter-like
flight of this bird was very distinctive when it took off. Poor quality
photos can be seen at the eBird link below. By enlarging the photos, you
should be able to see the key field marks.
