Rick, Bernard and I started our Winter list day at Grand Pre - initially no
luck with the Snowies, but did get Red-thr. Loons, W-W Scoter etc. Then to
Metro, where highlights were a Balt. Oriole in bushes at Old Ferry Rd.,
Surf Scoters, a Rough-legged Hawk on Devil's Island (found by Liz Doull), A
Coot at the entrance to the Shubie Canal, and again at Bissett Lake,
Eurasian Wigeon at Sullivan's Pond. Then back to Windsor, where the Ross's
Goose was easily picked out, and Gr. and Lr.Scaup + G-W Teal at the sewage
plant (thanks, Eric). A fruitless search for Snowies from the Avonport
Dykes, but we finally found one on Boot Island just at dusk. Capped off the
day with Bernard's Barred Owl. Totalled 44 species, which we thought was
quite respectable.
