Hi all

Briefly a few observations of somewhat uncommon birds from recent CBC's. =

On Dec. 28, on the Antigonish CBC, I photographed a Varied Thrush below =
a feeder just at dusk on the Cove Rd. near the Southside Harbour end of =
the road.=20

Also earlier in the day I photographed a 1st winter male Eurasian Wigeon =
in a bit of open water along the access road to Pomquet PP.=20

On Dec. 29 I saw a male (Eurasian) Green -winged Teal in a group of a =
dozen or more teal along a small bit of open water on the Truro golf =
course. There was no sign of any vertical bar but a nice horizontal bar =
along the side of the bird. The face pattern was outlined with strong =
pale lines. I did not get a great look at the remaining teal as they =
took off when I surprised them as I rounded a corner. The E. teal and a =
fem with it stayed in the stream a few min. for closer observation so it =
is possible there might be more of the Eurasian subspecies in the group. =

Also in Truro Heights I took a distant photograph of an adult or near =
adult Coopers Hawk. It had hackles raised at times while perched =
presenting a squarish to hammer-head. I watched the bird fly off with =
strong flight strokes.=20

cheers
Ken
