Hi Blake

Ruddy ducks at Shearwater - saw two myself in Shearwater early this month,
and sent the report to you. Now, there is one in Pictou....
Red headed woodpecker pair - Granville beach - reported to Sharon Hawbolt
Carolina Wren - Spicer - Apple River - gone earlier this month

That adds up to 181 for December and January.

Liz

Subject: [NatureNS] NS Winter Bird List & "Depths Of Winter List"

"This has been a difficult winter for people and birds, and that is
demonstrated by the current NS Winter Bird List, which is shaping up to
possibly provide the lowest total number of species since I began keeping
track 18 years ago. We are currently at 178 species, and the previous low
total was 181, back in 1998/99, when there were fewer birders involved, and
eBird did not exist. We are missing a few species that are typically
reported every winter: Wood Duck, Black-backed Woodpecker, Ruddy Turnstone,
Pine Grosbeak. Some may turn up in Christmas Bird Counts that have yet to
be submitted, so I still have hope we will not have a "last place" winter."
