Ray Staszko and I are planning a trip to Sambro Island the last week of =
June. The focus of the trip is photography and will be limited to four =
people in total. The charter will move out of Sambro or Sambro Head at =
8AM, with a six to eight hour duration. Favorable conditions must apply; =
a gentle northerly wind to keep the fog, if present, off shore and a =
sunny or bright overcast sky. A strong south-west wind is a trip killer =
since it blows directly into the berthing cove.

Nesting colony protocol will apply:

-no flash photography or audio devices;
-no walking through the grasses except on the well trodden paths;
-no approaching the Double-crested Cormorant colony from an overland =
approach;
-stick to the rocks around the island as much as is practical;
-do not approach any bird that is on a nest and stop moving and back off =
when any bird stands up or starts walking away;
-no picking of wildflowers or other flora;
-absolutely never pick up a young bird and hold it in your hand.

What you can expect to see or photograph:

-Double-crested Cormorant Colony(approached from rocks on seaside only);
-Breeding Arctic Terns, maybe. They were there on my first trip but not =
on my second trip;
-Many breeding Black Guillemots, cavity nesting, but pose on rocks;
-Breeding Black-backed and Herring Gulls;
-Breeding Savannah and possibly other sparrow species;
-Breeding swallows;
-Breeding Spotted Sandpipers;
-Interesting and possibly rare wildflowers, flora and lichens;
-Spectacular scenery and a historic lighthouse, the oldest original =
light house in North America.

Possibilities:

-Roseate Tern has bred here in the past but would certainly be hard to =
find;
-Atlantic Puffin;
-Other less common alcids and gulls;
-Pleasant surprises.

Cost will be about $50 per person. I won't know the exact cost until I =
contact the charter captain. Now here's the rub! The trip will be on a =
weekday since weekend trips can involve speed boats, loud music and =
drinking. Also, there is limited space to berth in the cove. The trip =
will be arranged on short notice when weather and wind are compatible =
and the charter is available. Food, water and sun protection are =
essential. There is a nice shack on the cove that makes an excellent =
photography blind and place to relax and get out of the sun(hopefully).

If you can live with these conditions and make a firm commitment then =
contact me privately. First come, first serve.

Hans
