I just saw one of these "hummingbird moths" but am not sure what it is. =A0=
Here is a link to the photo I posted on my blog. =A0It didn't look, to me a=
nyway, like either of the three mentioned. =A0Sorry the quality is not grea=
t, I don't have a sophisticated camera! =A0You can see it is gold and rust-=
coloured predominantly. =A0I don't recall seeing one here before, and I've =
been here for 15 years. =A0The comfrey patch has taken over my garden, is a=
big draw for bees and hummingbirds as well.=0Ahttp://turtlehillfarm.files.=

oth ID =0A=0A=0AI was looking down from my deck today and spotted an impres=
sive day-flying moth feeding in the cotoneaster flowers. It was behaving li=
ke a bumblebee or hummingbird, I assumed Sphinx moth and zeroed in on Hemar=
is diffinis. It never stopped moving, so there was no chance for a photo, b=
ut it had a couple of closely spaced yellow bands across the tail, which we=
re very obvious from a distance. The body was relatively dark, but not blac=
k. H. diffinis is not listed on the Butterflies and Moths of NA site for No=
va Scotia, but H. thysbe is. Judging from pictures on the web, the moth Iob=
served was not the latter.=0A=0AAny ideas?=0A=0AWe do have one familiar mot=
h lodging here on the N. Mountain tonight -- a Luna, which is the second on=
e I've seen here this week (the first was in impeccable shape; this one is =
definitely worn).=0A=0ACheers,=0ADoug Linzey=0AArlington, NS=0A =0A=0A=0A=
