WOW! That was quick! I have had three votes for female bufflehead=85 and I =
figured that with the bold pattern it was a male of some sort! DOH!

Thanks everyone!

Subject: [NatureNS] Mystery duck in the NWT

Hello everyone:

I just got back from a trip out west and despite being mostly in cities, sh=
ips and a train, I at least managed to get good looks at one new life bird =
in Victoria, the chestnut-backed chickadee. I also had great views of a spo=
tted sandpiper that was "patrolling" the edge of a lake near Lutsel K'e, NW=
T where I was visiting family. I saw a duck I didn't recognise while at the=
same lake and it was far enough away that I was really unable to get a goo=
d picture. Here:

http://myweb.dal.ca/pmkelly/Mystery_Duck.jpg

is the best of four pictures put together. The ones on the left are "origin=
al colour" and the ones on the right are with the colour auto corrected. I =
have looked in a number of guides, but still can't sort out what it might b=
e. If anyone has an idea, I'd love to hear it!

Pat
