I had given up all hope of the Loons at Mill Lake, just west of exit 5 =
Highway 103 having any chance for a successful breeding season. Right =
at the time that they should have been starting to nest NS Power Corp =
dropped the water level multiple times to accommodate upstream =
construction. On June 27th I observed both Loons on the lake drifting =
and loafing about together with no sign of any young. On the same day =
closer to home the Steverman Lake pair were off the nest with a single =
chick.

Then this morning as I was passing by the lake I noticed an adult Loon =
near the Highway 103 bridge. Close behind was a single chick no more =
than a few days old. I had no chance to slow down or look for the other =
adult or a second chick but now that I know they are I will be watching =
more closely.
