I went for a walk around the Frog Pond at Fleming Park on Thursday (31 July), the first time I'd been there since mid-June. During several May and June visits, I had observed a noisy Merlin, usually calling near the outflow stream, at the start of the Crossland Ice Trail, and suspected that there was a nest nearby.

As soon as I arrived on Thursday, I heard a Merlin calling noisily, then a second. Finally I saw, through an opening in the tree canopy, FOUR Merlins fly overhead. So it looks like they successfully raised their brood in the park.

Cheers,
