We had our first adult Monarch emerge this morning .. a heathy female.

The eggs and larvae we have collected are mostly in the pupae stage. We have 40 chrysalises hanging on screens in our house (we use old window screens over the rearing boxes and the larvae attach to them). There are still have nine larvae and two eggs to finish rearing.

We had a successful BNS outing on Saturday in our field of milkweed. Everyone saw and imaged larvae and Monarch butterflies in the wild as well as a few examples of what we raised. Some participants took a larvae and milkweed home to watch the rest of the process of metamorphasis. Observers reported they saw more than the three adult Monarchs I had the previous day so perhaps some adults had emerged in the field. For awhile two were flying around attached.

After the outing, I watched as one Monach flew from milkweed to another, alighting only briefly to lay an egg. I collected one just to check on it.
