Subject: Enormous Flock of Peeps off Boot Island, Over 250,000

I went to Evangeline Beach this morning and sat in my lawn chair from =
7:30AM to 9:30AM(high tide). I took lots of photos of the peeps coming =
and going, flying and sitting, in flocks of up to 1000. I will post =
these photos as time permits.

However, the most remarkable sight of the morning, indeed my life, was =
the flock of peeps off and behind Boot Island. The distance to the flock =
was about 3 kilometres as scaled from a map. Using my camera as a =
measuring tool I calculated the flock as being 200 metres long, 30 =
metres high, with an unknown depth. The depth of the flock and the =
density of birds within the flock blocked all light from passing so the =
flock looked like a moving island. I have to guess at the depth of the =
flock so for the purposes of my calculations I plugged in a depth of 30 =
metres. Allowing for 2 birds per cubic metre(the density) the size of =
the flock calculates out to 360,000 birds. There are lots of unknowns =
and variables, for example the number of birds not in flight or not =
visible, the actual density of birds(birds per cubic metre) and the =
depth of the flock.

I have photos of this flock so I will refine my analysis later.

A remarkable experience!
