Hi All=0AYesterday was Loon Count Day in Keji.=0ADonna done a wonderful job=
of organizing things and made all very welcome. They had a presentation on=
banding of loons before we all set out to our lakes. Good to hear what is =
cooking.=0AWe did Beaverskin Lake one of the jewels of the Keji Lakes. The =
water is clear and the bottom very visible for most of the paddle. We found=
one adult loon fishing in a cover. No sign of a band.=0AOn one of the isla=
nds we saw a bed of Swamp Loosestrife ( Decodon verticillatus ) . Not a rar=
e plant but I don't see it too often. We than visited Sheldon's Cabin. Rema=
rkable woodwork.=0AOn the landing there was a very large bed of Indian Pipe=
(=A0 Monotropa uniflora ). Mostly I see it scattered here and there but th=
ere was many plants in the area. I'm not sure why but no doubt there is a r=
eason.=0AWhen we returned we walked the portage over to Peskowek lake and w=
ere=A0 rewarded with a big bed of Meadow-Beauty (Rhexia virginica ) on the =
shore. Rarely have I seen such a nice bed.=0AA great day - enjoy the summer=
