Hi All,

Nocturnal migration was steady throughout the week. With a total of 1,077
night flight calls it was almost on a par with the first two weeks of
September. However, species composition was very different. During this last
week of September, 54% of the calls were from warblers, 37% from sparrows,
and 2% from thrushes. In comparison, warblers accounted for 67% of calls in
the first week of September, thrushes, 24%, and sparrows just 4%. The most
common night flight call this week was Savannah Sparrow with a total of 239
night flight calls recorded. Many of these calls were close to sunrise,
indicating that the Amherst area is a favoured stop-over area for this
species. Common Yellowthroat was the most common warbler this week for the
first time with 106 calls, followed by Blackpoll Warbler (97), and Magnolia
Warbler (72). The second most common sparrow was White-throated Sparrow with
88 calls. Nelson's Sparrow was recorded for the first time this week. There
were good numbers of Bay-breasted Warblers for this late in September (26
calls). Swainson's Thrushes were down to just 23 calls.

Rare or uncommon birds for this week were: Prairie Warbler, Orange-crowned
Warbler, and Clay-colored Sparrow.

A complete list follows.
