Hi Allison & All, Oct 14, 2014
Thanks to David Mallock for taking a stab at this but it could be a =
Hypholoma only if the Genus has been broadly redefined, which I doubt.=20
Hypholoma always has been in the Purple-brown spored group but my =
fungus had cinnamon brown spores. Also in Hypholoma the cortinate veil =
eventually forms a fringe on the pileus but my fungus had a closely =
woven cobwebby cortina when young and, when older, no fringe on the =
pileus and occasional faint stains on the stipe where an annulus might =
be expected.=20
Hopefully before it turns to mush I will have time to characterize =
it more fully.

DW, Kentville (Also Piled higher and Deeper)

My colleague Dr David Malloch at the New Brunswick Museum says "That's =
a Hypholoma, possible H. capnoides or H. dispersum. They like wood =
chips and fruit late in the season." He recently gave a talk at the Nova =
Scotia Mycological Society annual foray in Wallace NS about the =
difficulties of identifying fungi in the genus Cortinarius. More =
information on that society is available here, for those interested: =

The first on the house lot in 47 years.=20

  =20

For some 10-20 years we keyed fleshy fungi nearly every weekend in =
season but very rarely (never ?) managed to key Cortinarius to species.=20
