Hi All,
Nocturnal migration continued at the same pace as the previous two weeks.
Sparrows were dominant with 8 different species detected. Savannah Sparrow
was the most common bird of the week with 87 calls recorded. Hermit Thrush
was still migrating in numbers with 67 calls. Yellow-rumped Warbler was the
most common warbler with 23 calls. There were late Common Yellowthroats (3)
and Blackburnian Warbler (1). Only one Dark-eyed Junco was heard but this
species appears not to be very vocal when migrating so there were probably
many more that were undetected. Shorebirds included American Woodcock and
Greater Yellowlegs. A rare bird for the week was Yellow-throated Warbler.
The night flight call of Yellow-throated Warbler is similar to both Northern
Parula and Pine Warbler. One call note recorded this week was more
consistent with the characteristics expected for Yellow-throated Warbler
than for the other two species. A complete list for the week follows.
