> NOV. 6, 2014 - In early afternoon I drove around (in my new/used/2010 =
silver Honda Civic) in the two areas mentioned yesterday, looking for =
herds of cattle and cattle egrets. As it turned out, Joe Brady=92s =
description of his sighting =93near the Canning Aboiteau=94 was very =
good. I found a small group of 7 beef cattle along the river and a bit =
upstream (west) of the aboiteau. Unfortunately the cows and 2 cattle =
egrets (Rick & Bernard saw 3 there earlier today) were only viewed very =
distantly at about 5-600 metres distance from the paved road east of =
Canning. To get to my viewing area, drive 0.3 km. west, toward Canning, =
from the junction of the Canning Aboiteau road and park on the shoulder =
where the green sign is for the road to Blomidon Park. Then look south, =
toward a large farm complex at the top of the rise along Saxon Street. =
I believe those cattle and egrets were on the south side of the river, =
and I did not try to find out how to get closer to them. Definitely a =
spotting scope is required to see the egrets. All of the cattle were =
lying down when observed, and the egrets were standing but not moving, =
and probably sleeping.

was on "Canning Aboiteau Road", just E of Canning, right where the =
Habitant River passes under the dyke. There's a big, old boat parked =
there and a circular drive which is impassable. You look way over to the =
W, where the obvious carrots come down over the hill, and look for beef =
cattle. The Egrets are right with the cattle, basically among them. We =
saw all three but there may be ways for them to disappear due to land & =
vegetation. BTW, these birds CAN be seen with the naked eye, as far as =
finding them is concerned. Also BTW, don't be confused by all the other =
carrots. There are shredded cull carrots over a huge acreage out there. =
Go where I described & look from there.
