Hi all
Here is a quick summary of a little birding from the last 2 days in =
Pictou and Antigonish counties.=20

Wednesday morning, Nov.5, at the north end of the access road to Big I. =
an Orange-crowned Warbler was seen in a flock of Black-capped =
Chickadees. I noted 23 Red-th. Loons and a flock of ~ 300 Scaup. Other =
fall regulars were present and a single Yellow-rumped Warbler. The Scaup =
and Canada Geese were being put up by some hunters in a boat. As I was =
leaving the island, I noticed a flock of geese in the Strait and while =
scoping through them, 4 swallows passed through my view. I turned around =
and drove to catch up to them as they were hawking insects in the dunes =
and periodically landing in bayberry. They were 4 Tree Swallows.=20

At Knoydart, a flock of 110 Canada Goose contained a goose with very =
dark breast carrying right up to the black on the neck somewhat =
suggestive of photos of the very west coast Dusky race.=20

At Arisaig I noted a flock of at least 80 Snow Buntings and a handful of =
Horned Larks.=20

Malignant Cove had quite a flock of Bonaparte's Gulls - rough estimate =
of 1200. There were 300-400 other gulls incl. 2 Iceland Gulls and 36 =
Red-throated Loons

I made 2 trips to the Antigonish sewage lagoon and noted 6 Northern =
Shoveler, 8 Ruddy Ducks, 14 Bufflehead, and 3 Black-headed Gulls.=20

At Antigonish Landing, I failed to locate any white herons but I did =
note quite a substantial number of waterfowl and gulls. There were 210 =
Ring-billed Gulls, 40 Bonaparte's, and 6 Black-headed Gulls in the mix. =
Notable waterfowl were 16 N. Pintail, 2 Wood Ducks, 7 Ruddy Ducks, 54 =
Green-winged Teal, 9 American Wigeon 200+ Common Merganser, 1 =
Pied-billed Grebe and 3 American Coots as well as several hundred Black =
Ducks.. Also present were single N. Harrier, Belted Kingfisher, and =
Great Blue Heron.=20

I did not have time to check Lakevale or Jimtown for small gulls but =
there are often large numbers there this time of year.=20

In New Glasgow an odd Lesser?Black-backed Gull continues to be seen =
periodically in the parking lot of the Aberdeen Business Centre. I have =
seen it here several times in the last 7-10 days now. It looks like an =
adult bird but does not have yellow legs.=20

All observations were posted to eBird.=20

cheers
Ken
