Dear All, Nov 28, 2014
Further to my e-mail of Nov 27, I measured the entry hole height (1
7/8"), cavity length (16") and maximum cavity width (4 1/2") of the section
used for the images; just slightly larger than dimensions derived from the
scale.
There was a second entry hole several feet above the one I split and the
intact entry hole was even smaller (1 5/8"; height & width were similar).

The April 15, 2013 Pileated hole tree looks to be of no use. There is no
hole in the stub (estimated 35' tall) and just a trace of what could be the
side of the hole on a wood fragment a few inches below the unshattered base
of the top (14" diameter at that point and with branches) and several feet
of very fragmented wood below this. The hole was a few inches below the
lowest branch.

Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville
