I got a call from Violet Pomeroy from Crooked Lake=2C Camperdown=2C Lunenbu=
rg county about over 60 common mergansers on the lake. This would not be a=
n abnormal number for here once the LaHave River has frozen up. I often se=
e huge gatherings at the mouth of the river at that time in late January or=
February. Now though=2C I thought that they likely were red-breasted merg=
ansers as I personally have seen large gatherings locally. Violet's ID was =
correct though. From pictures sent the birds were definitely common mergan=
sers with the bulk of them being males. The birds were there one day and g=
one the next. So a rather unique occurence for this area. =20
