Regular Monthly Meeting: Atlantic Bluefin Tuna: Mon. Jan. 19

Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Stock Structure, Migration, and a Changing Canadian F=
ishery
Michael Stokesbury
January 19, 2015

7:30 PM, Room BAC241, Beveridge Arts Centre, Acadia University, Wolfville.

Atlantic Bluefin Tuna are large, highly migratory fishes that are fished co=
mmercially and by charter in Atlantic Canada. In the talk I will discuss ho=
w we have worked with the Tag-A-Giant program and the DFO to help defined t=
he stock structure, migration pathways, and post-capture and release surviv=
al rate of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Mike is an Associate Professor and a Tier II Canada Research Chair in the E=
cology of Coastal Environments in the Biology department of Acadia Universi=
ty. The focus of Mike=92s research program is to quantify how anthropogenic=
disturbances in coastal ecosystems impact the spatial behaviour of fishes =
covering small to large spatial and temporal scales, may inflict mortality,=
and how such knowledge can be used to mitigate the negative effects of suc=
h activities on fish populations.
