We've have a flock of ~ 50 redpolls who stayed all winter, and are still
here today. (Spent a fortune on niger.) They are an impressive mass! And
I have every color phase-was trying to pick out the hoarys all winter (there
were at least three,... I think). I was marvelling at the diversity of
colorations. That recent article brought to our attention by Nancy and
posted on Cornell was much appreciated. I am happy with the 'lumping'
approach, solidly backed by genetics!
I wonder which day they will decide to abandon us...

We had large numbers of Goldfinches & redpolls (along with lesser numbers of
Siskins & Juncos) at our feeders this morning when the snow covered the
branches but they lost interest as the melt started.
