Hi John & All,
I think the reputation of Small-mouth Bass has been sullied by =
zenophobia; introduced and therefore bad. I asked on Naturens shortly =
after I joined, for proof that they were harmful and received only =
fluff.
They flourish where Trout can not survive, are fun to catch and, =
when skinned and filletted, are good eating. I have never encountered =
Bass in likely Trout water. In marginal water large Bass may eat small =
Trout but I would suppose that large Trout would do likewise.
Plants and animals should be judged on properties and effects not =
origin.=20
Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville

Subject: RE: [NatureNS] goldfish question
Have never heard of any goldfish or carp down Yarmouth way. A former =
German was interested in growing carp for the European market 35-odd =
years ago. I expressed grave doubt that he could get the permits. =
Don=E2=80=99t think anything happened.
=20
Will try to remember to pass along any news on this and will keep ears =
open.
=20
We gotta start eating and encouraging more people to eat pickerel and =
smallmouth bass! No more fish intros., please!

At the Museum, we have been trying to determine the distribution of =
goldfish within the Province.

We would appreciate any geo-reference reports on their occurrence . =
If anyone has such data, would appreciate if they could contact me.
