Hi All,
Nocturnal migration picked up during the first week of May. White-throated
Sparrows, Greater Yellowlegs, and Hermit Thrushes were the most abundant
migrants. These species were also very apparent during the day in the same
area. However, there were very few warblers both at night and during the
day.
Readers of these reports have requested that I provide an estimate of the
number of individual birds detected rather than just the count of night
flight calls recorded. Thus, I have done this in the table below. I must
emphasize, however, that estimating the number of individual birds is
subject to large errors, and the call count remains the strongest measure of
migration density.
The numbers in the following table are the combined counts from two
different recording stations located 2.4 km. apart in the Canso, Guysborough
County, area.
