At Steverman's Lake in Lilydale this afternoon I counted 105 barn swallows.=
On a downer note=2C I also took a walk along the Back Harbour Trail Lunen=
burg alongside of where they have put in the dog park. Work still ongoing =
and a lot more vegetation removed since my last visit. A 98 percent decrea=
se in the numbers and species of birds that I would expect to see along tha=
t stretch for this time of the year. Very little bird life=2C which is wha=
t I feared might occur. I had a fleeting glimpse of an American redstart=
=2C which was the only warbler. Normally=2C there would be multiple repres=
entations of yellow-rumped=2C yellow=2C northern parula=2C chestnut-sided=

rblers=2C with many American redstarts=2C catbirds=2C verios=2C different =
sparrows=2C chickadees=2C potential rose-breasted grosbeaks and other speci=
es. Red-winged blackbirds were also missing for the first time ever. Bird=
ing tourists to the area used to ask where to go when visiting Lunenburg an=
d I always used to refer them to that part of the trail. I'll have to redi=
rect them elsewhere in the future or to other parts of the trail or town.=20
