The weather forecast is calling for another rainy Saturday (June 13), so =
we have rescheduled =E2=80=93 again-- the paddle and walk, this time for =
sunny Sunday, June 14.
DS
Join Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia and the NS Department of Environment =
=E2=80=93 Protected Areas and Ecosystems staff for a circumnavigation =
of suburban Coxs Lake, headwaters of Nine Mile River and the start of an =
intriguing water route to Shad Bay. The outing will include a walk via =
an old 900 m portage through the old growth forest of a parcel of land =
proposed for addition to the Blue Mountain =E2=80=93 Birch Cove Lakes =
Wilderness Area. The trip will start and end at the landing at the tip =
of Long Cove of Coxs Lake, and will include a lunch stop at an island =
campsite. There will be no whitewater and no portaging, making the trip =
suitable for both canoes and seakayaks.
Bring your own boat plus the required safety gear, food, drinks, =
sunscreen and insect repellent. Meet at the parking lot at the lake end =
of Cox Lake Road, off Yankeetown Road, near Hammonds Plains Road, HRM, =
at 9:30 AM. To pre-register and for more information contact Dusan =
Soudek at 902-422-1045 (evenings) or at soudekd@ns.sympatico.ca.=20
