Hello everyone=2C
=20
Time has flown and August 11 is coming around again on Tuesday=2C the 131st=
anniversary of the birth of Robie W. Tufts=2C who was the driving force be=
hind the conservation=2C study=2C and development of popular interest in bi=
rds in Nova Scotia for much of the 20th century. It is also a good time of=
year for the famous shorebird migration at Evangeline Beach=2C so a few of=
us will honour his memory by going there to observe them as he did for so =
many decades. =20
=20
This will be an easy-going field trip (especially for seniors) meeting at t=
he exhibit=2C Evangeline Beach=2C about 0900-0930=2C and watching the tide =
bring the shorebirds close enough to be identified (high tide 1109). Most =
of us are not in good enough shape for one of the long walks there made fam=
ous by Jim Wolford=2C but=2C if birds are scarce there we shall travel by c=
ar to other viewing areas. There are other areas that Robie Tufts used to=
take us to=2C such as the end of Pheasant Rd. or The Guzzle=2C which are n=
o longer easily accessible for seniors=2C and many parts of the Grand Pr=E9=
that are today too dry to be used by shorebirds at high tide as in the pas=
t=2C but a few locations can be productive at times.
=20
In the spirit of Dr. Tufts' efforts to encourage interest in birds in young=
people=2C youngsters of all ages are welcome to join us. There will be a =
scope or two to share there=2C but there are never enough=2C so bring one i=
f you can. Plans are to go only until the lunch hour=2C although some ma=
y wish to carry on into other areas in the p.m.
