Thanks Dave M.
By eliminating what it can't be, I have concluded that it was some =

There is much misinformation about spider bites. The links below are =
all written by people who know about spiders. They are not afraid of =
spiders nor spider bites.

Chris Buddle, an arachnologist at McGill University has written about =
spider bites, from the perspective of someone who knows about spiders.

More of the same for a broad audience: =

Robb Bennett, an arachnologist based in BC, has worked with physicians =
to clear up misunderstandings about spider bites. This was in Canadian =
Family Physician:

Enjoy the reading and keep an eye out for interesting spiders.

    Dear All, Aug 30, 2015
On Aug 17 I brought in a load of wood and carried some armloads of =
small
to the truck in the crook of my left arm. When I got home and washed =
I found
a red raised area on my left forearm, distal of the elbow crease by =
about 1
cm; dull red, about as large as a quarter and raised about 3 mm in =
the
middle. The next day the joints of my left hand, digits and wrist, =
ached
noticably but only a few hours that one day. Over the following 13 =
days the
red area has gradually become fainter and lower; now still almost =
quarter
    sized but barely present .

I was not aware of having been stung where the reddish area is but =
the
wood tier was also a red ant apartment and I had many ant bites; a =
mild
sting would have been dismissed as just another ant bite.

There frequently are spiders in these wood shelters and sometimes
centipedes. So I am wondering if any of our species might be able to =
do
this; cause these symptoms without a noticable (painful) sting.

There is no halo and I eliminated deer tick because it is not like =
a
    tick
    to bite and run.

    Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville
