Japanese Beetles are not that rare in Kings County. I have photographed a f=
ew & have noted 1-2 others. I seem to recall that Nancy Dowd photographed =
one either on the South Shore (or near East Dalhousie=2C Western Kings Coun=
ty where she has a cottage) either of which would extend the range a bit.

        Does anyone know offhand how common the =0A=
      Japanese Beetle (Popillia japonica) is in NS ? I found one =0A=
      yesterday in a flower garden (Kentville) the first I had seen since I=
 =0A=
      started collecting beetles in 1960 [ and in most habitats except flow=

        A checklist of NS beetles=2C prepared by =0A=
      Chris Majka and dated Nov=2C 2003 shows it to have been collected in =

Hi David (and David)...=0A=
 =20
=0A=
  I reported a single P. japonica=2C found and photographed at Roaches Pond=
 =0A=
  in Spryfield (nowhere near the train station or Westin Hotel!) to Andrew =
Hebda =0A=
  at the NS Museum last year (see =0A=
  http://imaginaturestudio.blogspot.ca/2014/09/an-unpleasant-discovery.html=
 =0A=
  for the whole sordid story).=0A=
 =20
=0A=
  This year I found another single beetle at the same site on August 2nd =
=0A=
  with another one seen on the 5th. But on the 17th=2C I hit the jackpot (n=
ot a =0A=
  lottery I want to win). I ventured up to a spot that I rarely go...the sm=
all =0A=
  meadow behind the ball field above and away from the pond...and found lar=
ge =0A=
  numbers of them (>12 dozen or so=2C including more than 10 mating pairs).=
 It =0A=
  was disturbingly easy to find places to get 4 to 6 beetles in single phot=
os so =0A=
  it appears that they're doing well here...which is not a good thing.=0A=
