Last Sunday on a Trike ride (recumbent trike), I saw quite a few Banded Woolly Bear caterpillars crossing the roads. I decided to count them since there were so many and over a 12 km loop, I saw 35 crossing and 21 dead. There were three of other species crossing the roads. As you would expect, there were more dead on the major roads such as Rt 221.

So last Sunday, I saw about 3 live caterpillars per kilometre. These numbers don't let us estimate how probable it is in getting swished crossing but it certain is pretty high.

Cheers,
Larry

Oh, incidently, we had a Monarch in our flower beds that same day.
