That flock in Masstown contains a Canada Goose (to me a standard B. c. cana=
densis) that has, in addition to the white cheek patch, white mixed with bl=
ack on the crown and back of the head. It's an unusual looking bird, but it=
or a very similar one has been in Masstown-Onslow goose flocks for the pas=
t couple of years. It certainly captures one's attention.

Received this email from my buddy Chris in Truro area last night.

"Sorry about the terrible quality, but I was super zoomed in. Both birds we=
re located on a cattle pasture where HWY 4 meets the Shore Rd (Debert end).=
"

The photos show a small Canada goose standing in a field among a bunch of o=
thers with an strange plumage where the back of its head is entirely white.

The other photo is of a white heron-like bird standing by the edge of the p=
ond. It's too blurry to tell what it is.

If you're in the area it might be worth swinging by to take a peek. Chris =
might not
