All:
Some may have heard about plans to develop Nerdham Park in penimsular Halif=
ax North End , mostly to upgrade the Halifax Explosion monument and enhance=
viewplanes. Some naturalists know it as having the largest remnant conife=
r stand in the N. End, and a nice group of deciduous trees along the n.e. s=
lope, etc. It is also an good area for birds, especially in winter. But I =
don't know if plant surveys, formal or casual, have been done. Many, many y=
ears ago there was a tiny patch of "Mayflowr" (Epigaea repens) in the n.w. =
corner, but it's probably gone now.
Although the plans as we've seen them (NSBS and EAC Bird Conservation Commi=
ttee) don't seem threatening, we would like to have ASAP any data or impres=
sions by others on the natural (ecological) values of the place, especially=
the plants including unusual trees. Please send any such info to me ASAP.
All the best, Ian
Ian McLaren
