Although no one wants to talk about winter in mid-November, the winter
birding season starts in less than two weeks! As many of you know, Blake
Maybank <https://www.facebook.com/blake.maybank> spearheaded winter listing
in Nova Scotia, first recording all known winter bird sightings throughout
the province in the winter of 1996-97. He continued to compile nearly two
decades of winter records, and his website became the official home of the
NS winter bird list. Like many of us who have taken an interest in winter
birding, he was a force to be reckoned with every December 1st!
When the NSBS looked for a new administrator to take over the winter list
this fall, we didn't have to look hard. It should come as no surprise to
those who know him that Keith Lowe keenly accepted when asked. The NS
winter list continues to be in good hand; come by and keep up to date this
winter season at its new home on the NSBS website:
