Orange neck collars are used on Canada Geese from the northern part of the =
Mississippi flyway (on the Canadian prairies, roughly speaking) and on some=
from the Eastern Arctic. The critical feature to note is the alphanumeric =
code on the collar, which is distinctive to area.
All the neck-collared geese that I have seen through the years in the Truro=
area have had yellow collars and a code that pins them down specifically t=
o West Greenland. So the orange-collared birds seen on the South Shore are =
unlikely to have come from Truro/Shubenacadie. Without the code, it is anyb=
ody's guess where they originated.

What colour were the neck bands?
South Shore Canadas take a quite different southward route than birds stagi=
ng in Colchester County.

I had a call from a lady named Sandra about two weeks ago. She reported se=
eing a flock of Canada geese flying over at Bayside near Peggy's Cove with =
5-8 of these geese with neck bands. I'm guessing these likely were the one=
s that were seen in and around the Truro area earlier.
