Late yesterday afternoon, I walked around the Frog Pond in Fleming Park, Jollimore, HRM, for the first time in months. I found some Coltsfoot in full bloom on the gravelly edge of the lake, still in full sunshine after 6:30 p.m.

Water levels are very high, the highest I have ever seen them here. A few of the boards on the sixth boardwalk were under water. Lots of vernal pools in the woods. I was puzzled by some low trilling, and eventually decided that I was hearing a single American Toad; the first amphibian of the year, for me. It seems too early.
